Sabina has moved with her brothers from Romania to the small Swedish town of Holmsund to look for work. One night she meets Elin who has just finished school and is celebrating the first day of the summer holidays. Despite the language barrier and their different backgrounds, a friendship develops and soon the difference between dream and reality becomes unclear. »Den blomstertid nu kommer« investigates how Swedes actually confront immigration and how bonds can be formed between two people in spite of language barriers.

Lindgren’s feature length version of his prize winning short focuses on the labor induced immigration in Holmsund and the meeting point between two cultures. Romanian actress Andreea Petre was discovered by Lindgren in the documentary »Toto and His Sisters«, - a film which portrays her life in a poor suburb in Bucharest. She and Elin Marklund reprise their roles from the short film and their chemistry bestows the film with honesty and energy.
