Adapting William Faulkner’s classic novel, “The Sound and the Fury” for the big screen, director James Franco casts himself in the role of the mentally challenged Benjy. Benjys family, the Compson’s, are coming apart at the seams and the family members are desperate to hold on to their crumbling self-worth. Told from the point of view of the siblings and the people close to them, the misfortunes of their clan are brought to searing, vivid life. With source material that often has been categorized as “un-filmable”, »The Sound and the Fury« is a testament to Franco’s audacious ambitions as a director. Proving that he is up to the challenge, Franco has adapted the tale of Benjy and his relatives without sacrificing the raw human emotions that lie at the heart of Faulkner’s complex and celebrated writing.
