Whilst shooting »Only God forgives« Nicholas Winding Refn and director Corfixen relocated their family to Thailand for six months. Initially »My Life Directed by Nicholas Winding Refn« seems result from Corfixen’s need to eleviate the boredom of being alone while her husband was working. However, the resulting feature morphs into something much more complex: namely, a study of the pressure of success and self-doubt on a creative mind.

Following the documentary »Gambler«, which chronicled their relationship difficulties following Refn’s financial problems after the failure of his film »Fear X«, »My life directed by Nicolas Winding Refn« offers an even more honest and insightful view of Corfixen and Refn’s marriage. With moments of lightness, such as when maverick Chilean filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky reads Corfixen’s tarrot cards, the film subverts the usual ‘behind the scenes’ format by showing the audience the domestic side of the scenario, and in doing so makes Corfixen, behind the camera, as much of the subject as Winding Refn’s sometimes demanding and often trying antics in front of it.
