A young, restless woman joins the military and ends up as a guard at the US military’s most infamous detention-camp. Increasingly jaded by the hostile, aggressive and sexist environment, she befriends one of the detainees. As they both find solace in their unlikely friendship, it becomes harder to tell friend from foe in the camp’s “war zone”.

Effectively dealing with post-9/11 trauma and the one-sided worldview that followed the war on terror, exciting newcomer Peter Sattler gives a disturbing portrayal of a notorious institution by chillingly staging the robotic routines as well as the indifferent treatment and the torture of the detainees. Even though the realities on both sides of the fence are excruciating, the mutual exchange of humanity between the alleged enemies will change their lives forever. Leaving the blockbuster milieu behind her, Kristen Stewart gives a strong and heartfelt performance, yet again proving herself as a serious actor. Equally impressive is actor Peyman Moaadi, known for Asghar Farhadi’s »A Separation«, who gives a captivating portrayal of a man screaming for humanity and reason in a place where few can hear him and even fewer care.
