How much can you put those you love – and yourself – through, in order to do what you love? That is a central question in Lucy Walker’s documentary about the USA champion snowboarder Kevin Pearce, who permanently injured his head preparing for the 2010 Winter Olympics. After the injury Pearce tried to regain the life he had before, ultimately returning to the sport. Since one more blow to the head could be fatal, Kevin must consider his family’s objections regarding his return.

Using years of footage, Walker manages to both display the dangers of extreme sports and draw an intimate portrait of the strength that can be found in a family. Essentially, it is a story of sacrifice – something that lies in the core of what it means to be a human being. »The Crash Reel« has already been awarded prizes at different film festivals, and has amazed and touched audiences and critics alike.
