THE LIVES OF married couple Alice and Dave, as well as Alice’s sister Steph, are torn apart after a night out in a Cambodian resort leading to the mysterious disappearance of Steph’s boyfriend Jeremy.
WITH THE UNRAVELING of past events, we see their relationships suffer as they try to locate Jeremy and at the same time go on with their lives. The situation becomes unbearable when an affair between Dave and Steph on the night of the disappearance is revealed, and a state of complexity within the family occurs. Instead of the love and support needed to keep the faith and find the missing man, feelings of desperation, jealousy and paranoia surface.
»Wish You Were Here« is a title that perhaps more than referring to the film’s events, is a reference to the emotional states of the protagonists.
AFTER »ANIMAL KINGDOM« in 2010 and »Snowtown« in 2011 both screened at the Stockholm International Film Festival, Australia delivers yet another intense drama where the creeping darkness lasts throughout the film.
