The Impeccable care that comes with preparing Michelin three-star cuisine is quietly yet intriguingly portrayed in this documentary about Michel Bras, a restaurateur about to retire from his passionate work as a chef of high-end French cuisine. As Michel is stepping down, his son Sébastian is set to take over the business, having worked in his father’s restaurants for 15 years.

Following the Bras family – considered to be of outmost significance to French gourmet cooking – the audience will be stunned to see the care that goes behind every step of the food they prepare. We get a behind-the-scenes look into the Bras family’s working life: hand-picking wild mushrooms and arriving at the markets right when they open early in the morning. We even discover that their meals are often sketched as a brief blueprint on paper before being arranged onto our plate.

This is the second time director Paul Lacoste has profiled Michel Bras: several years ago Lacoste followed Michel around in a broadcast series about Gallic chefs. The comfort in the relationship between the filmmaker and his subject makes this documentary both candid and intimate.
