Pedro returns home to the small mountain village of Guerrero in his native Mexico, with money saved from years working in USA. He hopes to make a better life with his wife and two daughters, but soon finds out he barely knows them anymore. Pedro seeks comfort in starting a band, Copa Kings, but the dream to become a musician eventually fades. The arrival of another baby brings further financial strains and Pedro has to make the difficult decision whether to stay or to return north.

Director Antonio Méndez Esparza’s debut feature continues his examination of migrant labor. Similar to his previous short films,he balances on the edge between poetry and social commentary. The style is a juxtaposition of fiction and documentary, where stunning shots of the mountain region are contrasted by the everyday chaos of the streets. Most of the actors are non-professionals, playing variations of themselves. A mention must also be made of the score’s lyrics, which function as an ironic running commentary.
