The summer holidays have just begun for 11-year-old Skunk, and her days are full of easy hopes. However, this changes when her ugly neighbor Mr. Oswald beats up the sweet but unstable boy next door, Rick, after his daughter accuses the boy of rape. Skunk’ s innocence begins to drain away at a speed and in a manner that she cannot control.

Her home, neighborhood and school have become treacherous environments where the happy certainties of childhood give way to a fear-filled doubt; a complex, broken world fills her future. Skunk seeks solace in the one remaining place where she knows she can find it – in the unspoken friendship with sweet but damaged Rick.

Rufus Norris debuts as a feature film director with a screenplay from successful Mark O’Rowe, based on a novel by Daniel Clay. Actors such as Tim Roth and Cillian Murhpy star in this multi-character drama about relationships and trust on many levels: trust between child and parent, friendship and love.
