»Patang« is a poetic journey to the old city of Ahmedabad and India's largest kite festival. Jayesh (Mukund Shukla), a successful businessman, brings his teenage daughter Priya to reunite with his family during the festival. They have not seen each other for five years. A conflict slowly grows and the members of the family have to confront their past. Fragmented frames of typical downtown India and its hectic street life provide the story with a certain rhythm. The daring close-ups of the characters, often captures no more than fragments of their faces, goes well with the atmosphere of the story. The kites in the sky soar in various directions and wrap around each other like subplots of the story.

The naturalistic acting provides »Patang« with a documentary character. Seema Biswas is a well-known actress in India and her performance is, as usual, excellent. Sugandha Garg, makes a great impression as the young Priya, and navigates between her sweetness and growing sexual awakening. The young boys on the streets act so natural you would think they were born in front of the camera.
