The documentary filmmaker Ian Palmer has been working on »Knuckle« for over a decade. During this period of time, Palmer has been following the family feud of the Irish Travelers families Quinn and Joyce. It all started in 1992 when a fight with a deadly outcome erupted outside a pub in London between men from the Joyces and Quinns. The families never got over the tragedy and continued to arrange fights between men from the two families - now betting money on these bare knuckle fights. Palmer got permission to film the fights and now he has invited us to the private room he has been given access to. Focusing on two brothers of the Quinn family, Michael and James, this brutal story does not offer us any answers or help us understand. It is a raw and ruthless world that Ian Palmer presents, one that does not seem to have an ending in sight. The fights take place in gravel roads and in parking lots, surrounded by family members. The men come home with broken hands and noses, all covered in blood and dirt. They are all part of a violent subculture where no one is the winner.
