In 2003 director Yu-hsien Lin made a documentary about a gymnastics team that his older brother coached. The documentary was very well received and now he revisits the subject with another film inspired by the life of his brother.

»Jump Ashin!« is the story of Ashin, who dreams of becoming a gymnast, but his responsibilities keep him from fulfilling that goal. Disillusioned, he starts hanging around the wrong kind of people and soon he becomes a well-known troublemaker that uses his gymnast skills in gang fights. Eventually things take a turn for the worse and Ashin starts dreaming of returning to the sport that he loves. But is it too late?

Yu-hsien balances comedy and drama inspired by 1980's films. The action scenes in particular seem to be heavily influenced by early Jackie Chan. The core of the film is Ashin's friendship with Pickle. Both parts are strongly portrayed by Peng and Ko, the former who impresses in a very physical role.
