A group of “host boys” work in a bar where women come to spend money—in hopes of finding love. The women’s lies and empty promises complicate the boys’ private lives. Overcome with their emotional addiction, the women always come back for more. As one of the characters aptly explains:“hosting makes you lonely. That is why the business can live off itself”. Because female prostitution dominates media portrayals of the industry, it is refreshing, but frightening, to view a glimpse of the sex industry from the working male's perspective.

The film is beautifully shot and composed of razor-sharp images. David Verbeek has, after five feature films, truly perfected his craft. This is a film about love and loneliness, and how the two, under certain circumstances, sometimes come together.

As the winner of the Return of the Tiger Award and Official Selection in the International Film Festival in Rotterdam 2011, Verbeek’s »Club Zeus« is already highly acclaimed.
