In a futuristic 1983, the enigmatic Dr. Barry Nyle (Michael Rogers) runs cruel tests on telepathic, mute, teenager, Elena (Eva Allan) at the prison-like Arboria institute. Both Barry and Elena are actually products of controversial drug experiments conducted by the dubious chief scientist Dr. Arboria (Scott Hylands) in the 1960’s. As the now drug addicted Dr. Arboria is dying, Barry abandons his good-doctor-façade and takes on the role of a sadistic stalker. When Elena escapes her imprisonment, he sets out on a crazed hunt for her through the creepy laboratory facilities.

Panos Cosmatos’ feature debut is an unusual combination of horror and science fiction, inspired by such diverse directors as David Cronenberg, Alejandro Jodorowsky, George Lucas and Dario Argento. Norm Li’s daring cinematography takes us through an uncanny LSD freak-out, in which every color flares at the lens. The narrative itself is a complex puzzle, slowly unfolding into strange patterns. With its striking visuals and peculiar soundscapes, »Beyond the Black Rainbow« is one of the most mesmerizing films you will ever experience.
