With eerie, otherworldly beauty yet dank photography by Laurent Baurès, who previously worked on Frontier(s) and Inside, combined with well-designed torture equipment that brings the likes of Jean-Pierre Jeunet's and Marc Caro's Delicatessen and City of the Lost Children to mind, this western-horror delivers a subtle gore fest filled with humoristic tidbits for the genre nerds.Tough-gal Charlotte is driving through deserted, snowy rural France when she picks up moody hitchhiker Max for company and as potential protection against assaulting road bikers. When taking a break at a truck stop, and once again bumping into aforementioned villains, Max disappears while Charlotte is in the bathroom. She goes back to search for him later that night, only to find out that he is definitely no stranger to the place, nor to its owner La Spack. The impressive cast consists of Yolande Moreau (from Seraphine) as the hilarious La Spack, art-house darling Émilie Dequenne (from The Girl on the Train) as cool Charlotte, and Benjamin Biolay as Max.
