Being a stranger in a cowboy town often means trouble in many a way. This is something that police officer Shane Cullen, played by True Blood´s Ryan Kwanten, experiences when he is transferred to Red Hill, a small town stuck on snooze. The sleepy society is in for a wake-up call when an escaped murderer and well-known tracker with a thirst for blood, sets his eyes on the town. The ill-suited city boy Shane soon finds himself wound up in a spiral of revenge, gunfights and past crimes. Red Hill is a homage to the Western classic in a modern Australian context, touching problems of both ethical and colonial nature. Using the background of a soon-to-be ghost town, director Patrick Hughes delves into the conflict between society and nature, where old sins are buried – but never forgotten. Red Hill clashes the new hero with a fistful of empathy against a country of old men.
