Cheng is a young and ambitious woman who works two jobs to support her younger brother and her sick father. Her lifelong dream is to escape from her poverty stricken past and become the owner of a luxurious apartment. Things look promising when she bids on a beautiful flat, but things go awry and we soon find out how far she will go in order to acquire her dream home. The foundation of this film is in essence a classic slasher structure, with more than enough gore and guts to satiate the blood lust of any gore hound. We are treated to some fairly spectacular and gratuitous scenes as well as creative use of household items. Beyond that, director Ho-Cheung Pang has added a tone of social commentary and critique based on the economic crisis and the living situation in Hong Kong. There is method to the madness and while we witness the blood bath on screen, the story enfolding is enriched by some serious motive and background, and we are invited to follow the progression of our protagonist's slowly slipping sanity.
