What happens when your brain tumor comes knocking on your door? Charles, a famous writer whose wife has just left him, is experiencing just that. After moving to his country house in order to retire, he is visited by a stranger who introduces himself by declaring ”I am your cancer”. Not only that, but his housekeeper feels that this is the right time to declare her love for him. As she too gets a visit from her own disease, in the form of a previously unknown breast cancer, whose embodiment shows up at the house, there is no escaping the chaos. Struggling both with their cancer companions and their feelings for each other, Charles and his housekeeper Louisa are soon involved in a love story.Having had experience of cancer himself in the recent past, writer and director Blier handles the topic convincingly, though he is not afraid to make fun of it. A comical yet tragic film, Clink of Ice is an entertaining account of when the struggles of life become all too real and present.
