Marina de Van's first feature film tells the disturbing story of Esther, an attractive free-lancer in a public relations firm, who is ready to make some major changes in her life, She's thinking about accepting a regular position at the company and of possibly settling down with her current boyfriend, One night, while taking a stroll in a dark garden, she falls down and gashes her leg. It's a nasty cut but she doesn't care much about it -that is, until a few days later when all kinds of strange things start happening to her body, According to the director, Esther becomes ''fascinated with her body as if in front of colours, forms, scenery, The body beyond representation, cultural and sexual idendity, Anterior emotions before the social existence of the body. This way of looking at the body as matter by pulling away the intellectual levels that impregnate our point of view - this takes us to a childlike experience,'' The influences from Bunuel as well as Polanski and Cronenberg are clearly detectable as the young director visualizes the humanity in Esther's monstruos behaviour so as to show what is fragile and vulnerable in all that violence - a woman so fascinated by her body to the point of tasting it.
