The three sisters Emily, Laura and Helen have different desires when it comes to relationships. Emily, who is a stockbroker, is pretty tough and all the men she becomes attracted to see her as threatening. Laura is having an affair with a married man, and Helen is only interested in casual sex. Desperately they are looking for someone who can fulfill their wishes, and in the quest for this they are spurred on by each other. The sisters conspire with and against each other and in time their efforts in affecting each other's lives take effect. A string of new relationships develop, but somehow things don't turn out the way they expected. All three of them are building up their lives and are trying to come to terms with how life in the big city is lived. The inspiration for the exterior scenes is taken from Athens' never-ending restorations, and they are filled with roped-off areas and potholes, which indirectly symbolize the sisters' ongoing development. The Mating Game is a colourful comedy and one of Greece's most popular films over the last few years. It carries traces of the sarcastic but harmless Greek comedies from the 50's and 60's, and just like in these films, Olga Malea lets her actors take centre stage.
